The Principle of Active Avoidance

Dealing with the economic situation.

If you get the news headlines... Amazon, Google, laying off 9000 employees...be sure that your employees are reading them as well.

One way to deal with it is to ignore it, but it is possible and even recommended to reduce the level of anxiety. And the anxiety is real. If you have the intra-organizational skills and ability, take this opportunity to build and train on coping with changes.

There is plenty of material online on how to deal with changes and it is relatively easy to build such a tutorial.

An interesting point that can be added to such training is the principle of Active Avoidance.

Avoidance from:

1. What makes us panic, of everything that "takes the wind off our sails," including news for those who cannot contain the stress.

2. Getting stuck on a title that may not be relevant to your industry or your field.

3. Fixations on a limited narrative about a specific event. About one moment. On one point of view.

If you hear whispers of stress in the hallways, do the opposite: do not avoid or ignore. There are many ways to release stress.

Note: avoidance is being received as helplessness, however, if you activate avoidance as a tool to deal with a problem, it is not helplessness. it is a method, a strategy, a choice to deal with a challenge. When you activate avoidance, you are in control. You are not helpless.
